LOCATION DETAILS: Small and somehow friendly for its absence of proprietor, the Animate Book Shop presents a cheerful sort of fire hazard, like all good used bookstores. Well-thumbed volumes fill not only shelves and tables, but also lean in precarious stacks across the floor, in sunny, dusty, window ledges, where-ever they’ll fit. Browsing this bounty of fantasy and sci-fi and romance offers the dreamy, meandering experience that once again all good book shops do, those charming incidences of books the character hasn’t seen since they were a child, or though they’d imagined as such, but for a handful of exceptional happenstance, as one might expect to find in a place like the Clock. Interacting with the books physically produces a number of unusual effects: The Sun Also Rises opens its pages with a blast of light, A Hundred Years of Solitude sends a feeling of loneliness wafting into the air, and a few of the gripping thrillers bite.

Squashy armchairs dot the shop in unexpected places, if the browser wishes to sample its selection. Books can be ‘purchased,’ as the handwritten (by no one visible) sign at the counter indicates, by summoning a memory associated with reading. These can be private, just the character thinking of them allows them to leave the shop with a book, but sharing (aloud) is encouraged! You could try just stealing them, but you’ll be left with a ‘normal’ copy of the book, and those could be acquired as easily by wishing.
